Godzilla’s ’Ring: Nissan Claims Nürburgring Lap Record With 2015 GT-R NISMO with “Track Options”

Nissan clearly put a lot of work into the 2015 GT-R NISMO, the even-higher-performance GT-R model that debuted in Tokyo this week, in order to make it stand out from the already crazy regular GT-R. Most of that work was carried out in the crucible of the demanding Nürburgring circuit, where the automaker was unabashedly gunning for a lap record. Now, as we noted in our overview of the GT-R NISMO, Nissan’s lap-time hunting netted it quite an impressive lap time.
The GT-R NISMO laid down a 7:08.679 lap time, which Nissan claims is a new record for a volume production car. There is one minor caveat, which mostly has to do with how one defines a volume production car; Porsche’s 918 Spyder recently posted a lower lap time, but only 918 examples of that car will be built; we presume Nissan is planning to build more GT-R NISMOs than that. Also, the record-breaking car was equipped with “track options,” which we believe constitute the Track package Nissan is readying for the ’15 GT-R NISMO. It includes aerodynamic tweaks, weight-saving measures, and a uniquely tuned suspension, but as you can see from the photos of the camouflaged, record-breaking GT-R, it might not be in final-spec form.

Regardless of the Porsche’s time or Nissan’s no-holds-barred approach to assembling performance-enhancing option packages, what is most important is that this kind of performance is available for regular folks to purchase. Sure, in this case, our example “regular person” would need a pile of cash, as the non-NISMO GT-R Track Edition already retails for more than $100K. But the point is that even cars such as the roughly $52,000 Corvette Stingray bring a lot of performance to the table. Let’s just say it’s a good time to be an enthusiast.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento ("Sixth Element" in English) is a two-door, two-seater, V10 high-performance lightweight limited edition car produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini, which debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The Sesto Elemento's name is a reference to the atomic number of carbon, in recognition of the car's extensive use of carbon fibre.

The Sesto Elemento is equipped with a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission with paddle shift and all wheel drivesystem, mated to a 5.2 litre V10 engine borrowed from the Gallardo, generating 578 PS (425 kW; 570 hp) and 540 N·m (400 lbf·ft) of torque. The chassis, body, drive shaft and suspension components are made of carbon fiber, reducing the overall weight to a mere 999 kilograms (2,202 lb), a weight comparable to subcompact cars such as a Honda Fit. It is the lightest car Lamborghini has ever produced.

The Sesto Elemento's interior is generally minimal with few vehicle comforts such as air-conditioning and car stereo. The seats are not exactly seats but shaped pads attached to the interior of the car.

2015 Porsche 918 Spyder: Production Spec Finally Revealed !!

The Porsche 918 Spyder is a mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar designed by Porsche. The Spyder is powered by a normally-aspirated 4.6 liter V8 engine, developing 608 horsepower (453 kW), with two electric motors delivering an additional 279 horsepower (208 kW) for a combined output of 887 horsepower (661 kW). The 918 Spyder's 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack delivers an all-electric range of 12 mi (19 km) under EPA's five-cycle tests. The car has a top speed of around 340 km/h (210 mph)
The 918 Spyder is a mid-engined two-seater sports car designed by Michael Mauer. It is powered by a 4.6 litre V8 engine. The engine is built on the same architecture as the one used in the RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype Racing  car without any engine belts.

The engine weighs 135 kg according to Porsche and it delivers 608 horsepower (453 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 528 N·m (389 lbf·ft) of maximum torque. This is supplemented by two electric motors delivering an additional 279 hp (208 kW). One 154 hp (115 kW) electric motor drives the rear wheels in parallel with the engine and also serves as the main generator. This motor and engine deliver power to the rear axle via a 7-speed gearbox coupled to Porsche's own PDK double-clutch system. The front 125 hp (93 kW) electric motor directly drives the front axle; an electric clutch decouples the motor when not in use. The total system delivers 887 hp (661 kW) and 1,275 N·m (940 lbf·ft) of torque. By October 2012 the engineering design was not finalized, but Porsche provided performance figures of 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h (120 mph) in 7.2 seconds, 300 kilometres per hour (190 mph) in 19.9 seconds and a top speed of 340 kilometres per hour (210 mph). In Car and Driver's independent test of the Porsche 918, C/D achieved 0-60 mph in 2.2 seconds (making it the fastest car C/D has ever tested), 0-100 mph in 4.9 seconds, 0-180 mph in 17.5 seconds, and the 1/4 mile in 9.8 seconds. In Motor Trend's independent test of the Porsche 918, they also claimed it was the fastest car to 60 mph that they had ever tested. It stopped from 60-0 mph in 94 feet, and broke Motor Trend's figure 8 record at 22.2 seconds

Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger is a nameplate that has been used on three distinct model lines of pickup trucks sold by the Ford Motor Company. Originally, the name was used by the short-lived Edsel Ranger, then later referred to a version of the Ford F-Series sold in North America between model year 1965 and 1981 that denoted a styling package. Ford repurposed the name "Ranger" in 1982 for the 1983 model year for a compact pickup truck sold in North America and later parts of South America. Since 1998, Ford has offered a separate model of Ranger sold internationally.

For markets outside of North America, Ford badge engineered the Japanese-built Mazda B-Series as the Courier starting in 1971, renaming it the Ranger in 1998; the Courier nameplate was retained in Australasia until 2006. The Courier was also sold in North America prior to the 1983 model year. Second-generation models from 2006 to 2011 were also designed by Mazda, being rebadged versions of the successor to the B-Series, the BT-50. Third-generation models, as produced since 2011,[2] were designed and engineered by Ford Australia, with Mazda offering a derivative version of the Ford as the second generation BT-50. The Mazda truck is also the basis for the Ford Everest SUV and therefore, the Ranger and the Everest share a number of features.
